Love this post, very informative! It's pretty funny that anemones are so "shy". They look TOTALLY different when they retract. Just a tube sitting in the sand.

It was my first-ever look at salt water, I was young, and I was curious to see what a complete anemone looked like. Don't worry, I didn't hurt it, and the sea gods have punished me by never letting me meet another one. :)

Glad to know about the tubes. That explains my experience 30 years ago with the anemone I met in a B.C. tidepool, which I was unable to "dig up by the roots" with a pencil I was carrying. Now I'll know better if I ever meet another one!
